Why We Don’t Not Believe Nothing We Don’t Hear

The Washington Post published an article last month saying that FactCheck.org is reinforcing false beliefs by repeating them as part of their debunking process. Today FactCheck responded with a full article – FactCheck.org: Cognitive Science and FactCheck.org, or Why We Still Do What We Do that does a great job of explaining some of the dangers in not evaluating incoming information for truthfulness or accuracy. It reminds me of what Jerry Mandler says in about how we allow the images from television to stream unedited into our brains.

Questions You Should Never Ask a Writer

This New York Times Op Ed piece was originally written by Doris Lessing in the early 90’s as communism was collapsing. Questions You Should Never Ask a Writer talks about the lingering effects of the language that crept into thought processes without anyone being aware of what was happening. I’ve never thought of “political correctness” being a communist idea from the former Soviet Union. Some of the other behaviors are the same, too…

Celebrate Every Day!

The Earth Calendar is a great way to find out what other people in the world are celebrating about this day. It also has lunar calendars for the current year and next year, including the names given to the full moon. September’s Full Moon is called Harvest Moon, Wine Moon, Singing Moon, Sturgeon Moon, Haligmonath (Holy Month), Witumanoth (Wood Month), Moon When Deer Paw the Earth.

Lost Star of Myth and Time

I finished reading last night. It is full of interesting ideas – the main one being that our sun is in a binary star relationship with another star. The evidence points to this other star being Sirius. When the two stars are the farthest apart from each other, we plunge into dark ages (which we’re just starting to come out of now). When they approach each other, we enjoy a Golden Age where people can live to be 1000. Imagine my surprise when I saw this in my email inbox this morning – Can Humans Live to 1,000?.

It’s also fun to think about things like Ed Leedskalnin’s Coral Castle. The 100 pound man who said he moved tons of rock using the same method as the pyramid builders never explained how he did it. Here is a fascinating movie called “Mystery of Coral Castle” on YouTube:

Emotional Freedom Technique – cures everything

There is a good video here – Gary Craigs EFT Video Training Course and a free manual. We heard about EFT earlier this summer. It seems to be based on some of the same principles as qigong, but with a Western psychological flair.

I read in a magazine somewhere about these plans for small houses – 400 square feet and smaller. You can buy the house plans from Lowe’s, which credits you for the cost of the plans if you buy the materials from them. I think it might have been for a Katrina Cottage, or maybe a Hip & green living in 400 sq. ft. – IdeaBox.
